#231 Fostering a Love for Reading in Children

Instilling a passion for reading in children should be at the forefront of every parent's agenda. Making reading a daily habit, whether it's before bedtime or during quality time, can be a fun and engaging way to enhance their understanding, boost creativity, and expand their vocabulary. Through this shared experience, they also learn how words are formed and pronounced, setting a strong foundation for language development. I've observed this firsthand with my child, Vignan, who may not yet have a vast vocabulary but still mimics and attempts to construct sentences based on what I read to him. This process is vital for his overall growth and development, and I'm delighted that he shares my love for books.

For my son, holidays are all about spending time with friends and indulging in his favorite activities. However, what truly amazes me is his unwavering curiosity and enthusiasm for reading. At just two years old, his thirst for knowledge seems boundless. Recently, I handed him a book about firefighters, complete with intricate diagrams of equipment and tools used to combat fires. To my surprise, he immediately identified and connected with the objects in the book. His keen interest in books has also helped him become familiar with colors and shapes like triangles.

Every weekend, we make it a point to visit the children's library with him. There, we explore a variety of books, read to him, and nurture his growing love for reading. This new and enjoyable activity not only enriches his life but also contributes to his holistic development. By encouraging children to engage in reading and diverse activities beyond mere playtime or toys, we foster the blossoming of their creativity. As parents, it's our role to provide them with opportunities to explore the world through books and various experiences, nurturing their young minds and helping them develop into well-rounded individuals.
