I've lived in Nepal for a year while I was growing up. Being a kid we lived in this independent house and I remember the people being very friendly and weather was always lovely. I would be on my little bike speeding across the house and my mom running after me hahha...but what I remember most about Kathmandu is the beautiful temples. They were magnificent. Here is me below making monkey faces when I was a kid at the Pasupathi Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal. I always looked forward to have a look at them and they have talk me so much in my life. The eyes of truth song from Enigma was actually filmed in Nepal. I absolutely love that song. Thats my experience in Nepal that they are spirtual people, very loving and caring. I actually made my hindi fluent in Nepal. We had a huge circle of family friends who would always be with us. It was one of fun filled memories of picnics, merriment, parties .
The centre of each town is its ‘Durbar’ or ‘palace’ square with its collection of Buddhist and Hindu pagodas, (the majority of Nepalese are Hindu). Like any town square in the world, these are fascinating places to hang out and people watch. On a positive note, the rugged environment and the fact that many Nepali men work abroad, means that women have much greater equality than elsewhere in Asia. The country is essentially a republic, too, after a crown prince wiped out most of the royal family in a frenzied killing spree one night in 2001.
The prince was crowned king as he lay in a coma only to die two days later. A long civil war ended in 2006. This country of deep tradition has had a rough transition into the modern world. Kathmandu is a great city to walk, talk and shop but the best thing about it is you are never far from nature. A few kilometres in any direction and you sight green fields between the apartment blocks, a few kilometres further and you can be walking in a rainforest. The Shivapuri National Park just to the north of the capital and should be hiked for. Visit the Tibetan gompa, (monastery) and experience buddishm and all its power.
