#4 Eyes of Truth - Kathmandu beauty

During my formative years, I had the privilege of living in Nepal for a year, a chapter in my life filled with charming memories and cultural richness. Nestled in an independent house, my childhood in Nepal was marked by the warmth of friendly people and consistently pleasant weather. I vividly recall the carefree days of zipping around the house on my little bike, with my mom playfully chasing after me. However, what truly captivated me in Kathmandu were the breathtaking temples that adorned the landscape. The magnificent Pasupathi Temple holds a special place in my heart, and a photo of me making monkey faces as a child at this sacred site evokes fond nostalgia. The spiritual essence of Nepal left a lasting impact on me, shaping my understanding of life and resonating with the Enigma song "Eyes of Truth," which was filmed in this spiritually vibrant land.

My time in Nepal also played a pivotal role in enhancing my Hindi proficiency. Surrounded by a vast circle of family friends, our days were filled with joyous picnics, celebrations, and vibrant parties. The heart of every town, the 'Durbar' or palace square, showcased a collection of Buddhist and Hindu pagodas, offering fascinating glimpses into local life. In Nepal, the rugged environment and the prevalence of Nepali men working abroad contributed to a positive aspect – greater gender equality. The country's transition to a republic, marked by a tragic incident in 2001 where a crown prince wiped out most of the royal family, highlights the complex journey Nepal has undertaken in embracing modernity while preserving its deep-rooted traditions.

Kathmandu, with its bustling streets and vibrant markets, is a city that seamlessly blends urban life with nature. The proximity to green fields and the Shivapuri National Park to the north allows for a unique experience of walking in rainforests and exploring Tibetan monasteries. The simplicity of life and the down-to-earth nature of the people remain etched in my memories. The temples, exuding both beauty and tranquility, became my retreat during weekends. Spending time in our garden, bike rides, and the occasional bumps and bruises added a touch of adventure to my childhood. I recall a thrilling elephant ride that turned even more adventurous when a sudden rhino encounter added unexpected excitement. Reflecting on these special moments, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunities to travel and live in diverse places. Nepal, with its rich culture, spiritual ambiance, and warm-hearted people, holds a cherished place in my heart as a part of my journey of exploration and discovery.
